SPECIALISED EYE UNIT OPENED IN KITWE

Zambia Republic Vice President Dr. Guy Scot has described the specialised eye department at Kitwe Central Hospital as very advanced. Dr. Scot said this during the official opening of Kitwe Central Hospital Eye Departmet in Kitwe District on the Copperbelt Province. Giving a vote of thanks, head of departmet at Kitwe Central Hospital Dr Asiwome Seaneadza thanked CBM Germany, Lions Zambia, ORBIS and the German goverment for making available the funds used to complete the project.

IMPACT OF BLINDNESS AFFECTING THE POOR

Zambia’s vice president, Dr. Guy Scott has described the impact of blindness, particularly to those living in abject poverty as extremely devastating.

Dr. Scot said this during the official opening of Lewanika General Hospital Eye Department in Mongu District, in the Western Province of Zambia. He added that this was unacceptable and as such, government had partnered with Lions Aid Norway to establish an Eye Department in Western Province at a cost of USD 1.2 million.

ZAMBIA SET FOR SECOND ROUND OF MDA

Zambia is set to implement its second round of the Mass Drug Administration for the elimination of Trachoma. Sources at the Ministry of Health have revealed that the Zithromax drug consignment donated by Pfizer is already in the country and the Medical Stores unit will soon start the distribution of the drug.
