Habitat for Humanity Zambia has been changing the lives of many needy Zambias. Read some of their stories below.

Nellie Nachilima
My life became difficult, very difficult when my husband died, I had nowhere to go. I thought I would run mad from the psychological impact it had on me. My husband’s family took everything we owned; High rates of HIV and poverty continue to place women in a precarious economic situation in Zambia. Mortality from HIV infection is high, leaving many households single headed and creating almost a half a million orphans

Alidah Phiri
A total of 14 family members live in this household and have lived here for 6 years. A typical day for the Kayilas is usually a slow one. The older children are school drop-outs trying to make ends meet. With a father who is bedridden with Tuberclosis, they know that they have to go out and look for odd jobs with their mother

Foster Mwelwa
Foster’s day is usually nothing much to look forward to. 4 years ago, she suffered a strange eye problem which left her completely blind. Before this happened, her day was a packed one. She knew she had a family to provide so she had to do all she could to fend for them. She started her day very early, found her way to the big markets then got back home and pre-packed her vegetables and sold them to people in her community. This is now a story of the past

Sebuloni Kaponda
Sebuloni is a 73 year old man of Kawama Township in Ndola, married to Pauline aged 62. The two have been married for over 40 years with 12 children. The family has lived in Kawama since 1970 when they bought the house. Due to limited financial resources, only one out of the 12 children was able to complete his education.
